A woman pedestrian was killed when she was involved in a collision with a motorbike on a fast stretch of road.

She was pronounced dead shortly after the accident on the C7 at its junction with Southease, near Newhaven, just before 3.30pm yesterday.

The road was closed for more than two hours, sparking rush-hour chaos on what is one of the main roads in East Sussex.

The 40-year-old Yamaha R1 motorcyclist was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with slight head injuries.

Neither victim has yet been named by Sussex Police, who operate data protection guidelines.
