The identity of a woman who fell into the path of an oncoming train and survived has still not been discovered.

Police are baffled by her disappearance after she fell in between the train tracks at Haywards Heath station yesterday morning.

A witness said the woman fell under the train as it passed over her. She got up and dashed out of the station, pursued by rail staff.

A revenue protection officer managed to catch up with the woman, who gave him her name and address.

But, when police went to the address they found it to be false. Now their investigation has come to a standstill.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "All our lines of inquiry have so far been unsuccessful. She left a false name and address, which means we are not able to determine who she is."
