Andy Naylor was correct in his article concerning the position of Martin Hinshelwood.

It is apparent to all Albion supporters with an ounce of sense that Martin was not the club's first choice and the delay in his appointment has led to the problems we are now encountering.

While it leaves a bad taste in your mouth criticising the chairman, who saved the club, he has to take the blame for this debacle.

We understand he had personnel problems during the summer but, as he himself said, no one person will have control of the club in the future.

Why, then, could not Mr Perry have dealt with the appointment in Dick Knight's absence?

Also, the new contracts offered to "fringe" players are somewhat bemusing. Why could it not be left to the new manager to decide who he wanted at his disposal?

Instead, Martin has been given a substandard squad with limited resources and little time to work with.

All the good work is going down the pan - and quickly. With the restrictions in the transfer system, how can we improve the squad in the near future?

The horse has bolted and the gate is still wide open.
