Shinewater are top of County League Division Two for the first time in their history.

Richard Piper's goal four minutes from time secured a 2-1 win at home to Broadbridge Heath.

Heath took the lead in the fourth minute with a goal by Ramin Jarvand but Shinewater levelled after the break through Graham Holman.

Manager Dave Shearing said: "The boys played brilliantly and it could have been five or six."

Rye and Iden United's impressive start to the season continued with a 3-2 win at home over Oakwood.

Player-manager Keith Miles, who took over two weeks before the start of the campaign, scored for the second week running to help preserve his side's unbeaten record.

Miles opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Gerald Manville equalised a minute later.

Dean Chamberlain and Neil Winton scored to make it 3-1 at half-time, Manville grabbed a second two minutes from time but the hosts hung on.

Miles said: "We were in control for the majority of the first half and deserved to win.

"I lost a couple of players in midweek and we changed our formation from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2. It probably worked better though because we looked more solid."

Eastbourne Town, who missed out on promotion last term despite heading the table for several weeks, illustrated their championship credentials by dishing out a 7-1 thrashing at bottom club Pease Pottage.

The visitors came from behind to win thanks to goals from Gary Brockwell (2), Lee Walsh, Craig Ottley, Yemi Odubade, Nick Barden and Max Dyer.

Eastbourne Town manager Dave Winterton said: "It is a good boost to our goal difference. We think we can go up but there's a long way to go.

"We have a bigger and better squad than last season and this year we have got off to a good start which we failed to do before."

Worthing United won 2-0 at Saltdean United to move up to eighth in the table.

Pete Raynsford opened the scoring in the second minute and Zeb Di Paola made it 2-0 nine minutes from time.

Manager Derren Woods said: "We had numerous chances and the scoreline could have been greater."

Anthony Whittington's first match as manager for Mile Oak ended in a 0-0 draw at home to Crawley Down.

Whittington, who took over last week from Mark Cox who resigned, was pleased with a clean sheet after Oak conceded 22 goals in their first six matches.

Oak enjoyed the better chances against Crawley Down and midfielder Jon Carter hit the post late on.

Ben Garman scored the only goal of the game in the first half as Steyning Town beat Westfield 1-0 to move above Mile Oak into 15th position.
