Tim Wittington's bank holiday afternoon digging in the front garden ended with police cordoning it off.
A metal object unearthed by Tim and his brother Johnny proved to be an old grenade.
Experts had to be called to examine the weapon and make sure the peaceful holiday didn't end with a bang.
