Further to my comments regarding a police officer who asks us to dial 999 if we see graffiti being sprayed (Letters, August 22), we now see that another constable, Peter Blyth of Worthing, is to head a fun day where victims of graffiti can clear up the mess.

His comment about the day was: "This will hopefully be a positive step in reducing people's fear of crime."

I send this message to the Chief Constable, probably from almost everyone who lives in this country: When the conviction rate for serious crime - rape, murder, mugging and robbery - has doubled and when the police can attend these incidents within minutes, our fear of crime will be reduced, not when we have clean walls.
