When Elizabeth Allen goes clubbing with her daughter Nicola they are often mistaken for sisters.

Now the Brighton granny, who is in her 60s, has been voted Glamorous Mum Of The Year in a national competition.

A modest Elizabeth puts her looks down to luck, but it could have something to do with how fit she keeps herself.

As well as dancing at places like Midnight Blues, the night club at The Grand Hotel, and the King Alfred Leisure Centre in Hove, Elizabeth regularly swims at the Prince Regent Pool and does aerobics at Alive in Regency Square.

She said: "I'm lucky because I have always looked young for my age.

"When I was in my 20s I still looked like a teenager, so maybe now I am in my 60s I have grown into my looks.

"I think it is really important to keep yourself fit and healthy whatever age you are.

"I also always like going out dancing with my daughters Nicola and Sandra. I have similar tastes in clothes to Nicola.

"She often raids my wardrobe. We even brought the same pair of shoes the other day.

"I hate people knowing my age because I think they judge me on years rather than looks. I just think I have been very lucky with my genes."

As well as two daughters, Elizabeth also has a son. Their father died ten years ago.

Nicola entered her mum into the competition run by Best Magazine and retailer bonmarche.

Nicola, 38, said: "For her age she is fantastic and so full of life. People always mistake us for sisters and take her for being in her 40s.

"What makes her glamorous is that she is really slim and has a good figure. She also gets her hair done once a week, and wears modern clothes.

"When I entered the contest I didn't tell mum.

"Then one night a couple of weeks later I mentioned it but she didn't really listen as she thought she had no chance.

"When we found out she had reached the next stage we couldn't believe it."

Elizabeth won £1,000 and a makeover for her and Nicola from the magazine's beauty and fashion team.
