Councillor Susan Joy (Letters, August 5) and Brighton and Hove City Council would be more effective towards tearaways by providing alongside an off-the-road driver training complex, rough land for motorcycle scrambling, old-banger racing, mountain biking and skate-boarding, blading and go-cart racing areas.

In other words, allow young people to do something dangerous, other than hang around boring shopping malls trying to get rid of their natural aggression.

This might even reduce joy-riders killing themselves and others on the roads by teaching teenagers better riding and driving skills.

Every young person should be encouraged to join the police or other cadet organisations.
