Heavy rain has closed an exhibition in a museum and art gallery re-opened just two months ago after a £10 million refurbishment.

Water began dripping through the roof of one of the exhibition galleries in the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery during a day of torrential rain which swept across the coast.

Staff at the museum closed off the room where the Kiss and Kill exhibition is being staged and called in contractors to examine the problem.

Although none of the exhibits was in danger of being damaged, a spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council said some exhibition posters were taken down in the gallery where the exhibition was being staged.

Kiss and Kill is about the film industry in Brighton and viewing booths have been made to look like the space underneath the West Pier, the arches on Marine Parade and a shelter on the prom in the city.

The museum and art gallery in Church Street re-opened in May after being closed for more than two years.

The opening had been delayed for about six months after rain flooded through the roof.

The exhibition will remain closed until Thursday while work is carried out.

The rest of the building will be open to the public.
