Andy Petterson is on standby for Brighton and Hove Albion's return to Division One at Burnley on Saturday.

The Australian will keep goal at Turf Moor if No. 1 Michel Kuipers fails to recover from injury.

Trialist Petterson deputised again for the Dutchman in Saturday's promising 2-0 friendly victory at Third Division Bournemouth.

The 31-year-old former Charlton and Portsmouth keeper made his third appearance in eight days for the Seagulls since Kuipers suffered a recurrence of thigh trouble.

He also featured in the 0-0 draw at Leyton Orient and the 4-2 defeat at Cheltenham.

Manager Martin Hinshelwood revealed: "We had a chat about one or two things on Friday and I will sit down with Andy again today or tomorrow.

"If Michel is not fit I am quite happy to give Andy a period and we will take it from there."

Hinshelwood refuses to be harried into making his first signing after Gillingham centre half Guy Butters turned down a move to Albion.

"That's life," Hinshelwood said. "I felt we made him a very good offer.

"His basic would have been more than he is getting at Gillingham, but there were one or two other things he wanted that we couldn't cope with.

"I think it was a hard decision for him, but we have just got to get on with it now.

"We are talking to people all the time, but I am not going to bring people into the club that I don't think are right for us. My first signing is going to be important."

Goal king Bobby Zamora gave Albion a big boost at Bournemouth by coming through his comeback unscathed.

Zamora was given an hour on his first pre-season appearance following minor groin surgery and created the opening goal for impressive Paul Brooker.

"He is a big part of our club," said Hinshelwood.

"We were going to play him for 45 minutes, but he felt okay at half time so he just had another 15 minutes. We are pleased he is back."

Hinshelwood still hopes to sign a strike partner for Zamora as well as a centre half.

Robbie Pethick partnered captain Danny Cullip in the heart of defence and he capped a solid performance by converting a late penalty.
