Sussex coach Peter Moores is hoping day-night matches can illuminate Sussex's dismal National League campaign.

The county play the first of four matches under the Hove lights today (4pm) when they take on Second Division leaders Gloucestershire Gladiators.

The Sharks will be looking to avenge a six-wicket defeat at Cheltenham last week which left them bottom of the table with just two wins from nine starts.

Moores said: "Last year the day-nighters galvanised the team and we ended up winning all four and just missing out on promotion.

"Hopefully the same thing will happen. The players look forward to these games and we are looking for a big improvement on last week. It was a poor performance at Cheltenham and no one could complain if we changed the team."

James Kirtley and Mark Davis are both recovering well from broken hands while skipper Chris Adams is having treatment on his calf strain and Moores hopes at least two members of that key trio will return tonight.

"Getting one or two senior players back in the side will definitely help," added Moores. "A similar thing happened last year when we changed the team around for the day-nighters."

Sussex's aim is to climb out of the bottom four and avoid having to play first class opposition in the third round of next season's C&G Trophy.
