Pagham are the new leaders of the Sussex Invitation League after a tremendous two-wicket victory over champions Findon at Nyetimber Lane.

Findon, who were top before Saturday's game, would virtually have sealed their fifth title in seven years with victory.

But Pagham now lead by two points, although Findon remain favourites because they have a game in hand.

The new frontrunners celebrated with a mammoth drinking session in the clubhouse.

Skipper Craig Primmer said: "It was a big night and I'm still struggling. We were drinking until about 4am. It was the first time in about four or five years we have beaten them.

"We have a great chance of winning the league now. They have a game in hand and we have to hope they slip up. I don't mind people writing us off as it makes us more determined.

"We've another five games to go and if we win them all then I will be very proud of my side. "

Findon won the toss and declared on 200-9, Steve Vaughan took 5-50.

Pagham were wobbling at 160-7 until Primmer (38 not out) and Grant Christie steadied the ship. Chris Hayden (35) and David Galea (34) also batted well.

Findon opener Toby Kingsbury said: "It is not a major setback, we still picked up 14 points and are pretty confident."

Clymping's in-form skipper Benn Challen has targeted a top three position after they beat fourth-placed Lindfield to close to within 24 points of their visitors.

Lindfield batted first and made 197-7 after Challen took his tally of wickets to 26 with 4-57.

Clymping's captain then hit a season-best 86 not out to guide his side to 199-7 with two balls remaining.

Arundel remain third following their nine-wicket home win over bottom side Eastergate. Richard Thomas took 4-29 as the visitors were restricted to 170-9. In reply openers Ryan Chitty (82) and Joel Wiles (71 not out) put on 157 for the first wicket as Arundel cruised to 173-1.

Southwick's bid to escape relegation wasn't helped by poor fielding against Ifield.

They scored 157-9, Nick King top scoring on 49. Paul Duckhouse took 4-41. Ifield were 126-9 and the visitors' last man was dropped in the slips in the penultimate over.

Victory would have taken the Wickers level on points with Burgess Hill, who are third from bottom, one place above Southwick.

Skipper Mark O'Keefe said: "It was very frustrating. We dropped a couple of catches and we can't afford to do that. There is still hope but we must pull out a win from somewhere in our final four matches."
