A woman found unconscious with severe head injuries in a city centre street has died.

Georgina Amoo, 30, died yesterday morning at the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.

She had been ill since being found by two taxi drivers in the middle of Waterloo Street, Hove, at 3am on Thursday.

Police initially feared she may have been the victim of an assault and launched a major inquiry.

Detectives subsequently spoke to a man from the area who said he had been involved in a collision with someone while riding his bike.

Police said they will report the man, who has not been named, for careless cycling and a file was being sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Detective Inspector Graham Pratt, of Brighton and Hove police, said: "My thoughts are with Georgina's family.

"I would like to make another appeal to people who were in the area of Waterloo Street last Thursday in the early hours of the morning, who may have seen or heard anything, to contact police."

Ms Amoo had been living in Brighton and Hove for some time and her last known address was in the Waterloo Street area.
