Obviously Louise Manzaroli (Letters, May 14) is a person who has very little knowledge of the history of Brighton - especially the Clock Tower, which she thinks so depressing and should be replaced by a modern building.
To say the ugly white plastic covering is a vast improvement is really beyond belief.
The Clock Tower is a historic monument, built in 1888 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the previous reigning monarch.
It is very much part of our history and creates much interest to many visitors to Brighton.
With the much-needed restoration, it will be back to its former glory in the near future for all to see. A modern building? I think not.
