A young man who suffered serious head injuries in an incident outside a nightclub has died.

Michael Reynolds, 23, was with friends outside the Zap club early on Sunday morning when he was either assaulted or fell and hit his head.

Mr Reynolds died today at Hurstwood Park neurological hospital, Haywards Heath.

Police emphasised they were keeping an open mind about the incident and repeated their plea for anybody with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Moore, of Brighton and Hove police, said: "Our thoughts are with Michael's family at this difficult time.

"We are still trying to establish exactly what happened, which is why we need witnesses. Maybe he was assaulted, maybe he had an accident.

"We still need to speak to anybody who was at the Zap on Sunday morning at the time."

Mr Reynolds, a printer from Ruislip, Middlesex, was visiting Brighton with friends.

The incident happened between 1.45am and 2.10am on Sunday, outside the club at King's Arches, on Brighton seafront.

Two men, aged 25 and 34, were arrested by police and later released on bail pending further inquiries.

DCI Moore and detectives from Operation Tangent, investigating the incident, can be contacted on 0845 6070999.
