With reference to Mad Yank (Letters, May 23 - and why the pseudonym?), grunge is another way of describing scruffy.
Possibly the word originated in New Jersey, as it is not yet in my dictionary. Should Liz Solkhon and myself resort to cropped heads, baggies and trainers, we certainly would look appalling.
Have you got a life, Mad Yank, or is it still in New Jersey?
