Arundel top division one of the Invitation League by four points after a devastating performance from their father and son combination left Ifield reeling.

Arundel made 147-8 thanks to an excellent knock of 57 from in-form 19-year-old Ryan Chitty. The precocious right-hander spent the winter in Australia working on his technique and it appears to have paid dividends.

Chitty's dad, slow left-arm bowler Neil (4-22), then helped skittle the visitors for 83 as Arundel won by 64 runs.

Neil Chitty said: "Ryan was the difference between the sides. I think Ifield thought 150 was beyond them. He is a bit impetuous like a lot of youngsters and he chanced his arm on a few occasions but he got lucky."

Champions Findon remain in second after thrashing Southwick and maintain their 100 per cent record. Findon made 203-7 with Ali Shackman hitting 55. Southwick's Paul Grennan took 5-59.

The home side were dismissed for 54 after a dramatic collapse when their last six batsmen were all out without scoring against the bowling of James Iago (5-23) and Toby Kingsbury (4-1) .

Clymping inflicted another defeat on last season's runners-up Eastergate to record their first win of the season. Eastergate decided to bat and were all out for 143 as Benn Challen took 7-52.

In reply, openers Chris Green (25) and Graham Blann (48) provided a solid base but a collapse followed and Clymping struggled home on 144-8.

Lindfield beat Burgess Hill by two wickets to leave the home side bottom of the league.

Hill made 176-6 after Paul Edwards (75) and John Francis (40) combined well. Steve Pearce took 5-77 for the visitors. Lindfield recovered from 79-6 to clinch victory with four balls to spare.

Broadwater extended their lead in division two to nine points after a two-wicket win against lowly Petworth Park. Park were all out for 113 as skipper Joe Middleton took 4-47 and Kevin Johnson claimed three wickets.

Broadwater reached 114-8 after a profitable third wicket stand between Richard Iago and Joe Owen. Dick Whitcomb took 4-9.

Middleton said: "It is starting to look like it's between us and Crawley. We are looking for back-to-back promotions. Because we came up last year there is an element of the unknown about us and teams don't know what to expect."

Crawley remain second in the table after beating Henfield by two wickets. Henfield made 160-6 after knocks of 54 from Tim Normington and 72 not out from Kevin Thorns. In reply, Musawer hit 71 for the visitors and opener David Gillett made 41 as they reached 161-8. Graham Fuller took 4-58.

Crawley's Shakeel Mailk said: "It was a good team performance and we are enjoying the thrill of the chase. Broadwater will be looking over their shoulder and we are eager to play them."
