I could not believe what I read ("Ex-mayor cut in pavement trip", The Argus, May 22). Margaret Adams was on Brighton and Hove City Council when I tripped and fell on a pavement outside Hove Town Hall.
I broke my arm in two places and still have problems with the use of my arm. I put in a complaint. The Conservatives were in power and I was told the pavement trip was not from high enough. I met Mrs Adams when she was mayor and told her about the incident. I was given the curt reply that there was not enough money to do everything.
How times change. She is quoted as not wanting to make a fuss but has the support of her local councillor - Conservative, of course - and received publicity. Not too much fuss, then.
I have sympathy for her plight, which is more than she and her fellow Conservatives showed to me. It appears the old adage still applies in the Conservative ranks: "One rule for me and another for you."
