I was delighted to hear the passengers on the blazing coach (The Argus, May 23) were all unhurt and merely bewildered as they stood waiting for their replacement coach.

However, behind these bewildered folk were approximately 400 vehicles at a standstill, waiting for some indication of their fate. They sat and sat and sat without any information or help from the Sussex Police, who were at the scene.

They sat for so long that, eventually, they became frustrated and began to turn around and drive back to the roundabout at the Lewes tunnel end of the A27. Chaos ensued, as you can well imagine. It was a complete fiasco.

Sussex Police should be ashamed of themselves and review their procedures on communication and control.
