A car passenger was passing a lighted cannabis joint to the driver when the car stopped at red traffic lights right where a policeman was standing.
PC Matthew Willems, on duty at the Clock Tower in Brighton city centre, leant forward and tapped on the car window.
The passenger turned, saw the officer and said: "Oh s***."
Two men were arrested and later charged with possession of cannabis.
