I have lived in Brighton for about five years and it appears parking problems are not being resolved.

It is getting worse and becoming intolerable for residents. The main cause is the new traffic wardens we have in Brighton and Hove.

I operate my own business from my flat and do not work normal office hours. On Tuesday, April 23, I was meeting a client in Ditching for a dinner meeting.

On returning home at 10.30pm, I started hunting for a parking space and, of course, there was none.

My only option was to park my car on the double yellow lines at the top of my road, common practice for residents since there are limited spaces.

I returned to my car at 8.30am the next day to move it to a more suitable space. To my distress, I found the car had been towed at 8.00am.

This cause a massive amount of inconvenience. Meetings with clients had to be re-arranged or cancelled and all this on top of the fine I had to pay.

It is common knowledge that residents are going to be illegally parking at night.

Traffic wardens know they have an easy revenue maker if they get to the residential areas early enough but this does not resolve the problem of parking.

When I returned from the pound, I found a builder's van in exactly the same place my car had been towed from.

Brunswick Road has had a large percentage of its street parking converted for skipping since one of the houses in the road is being renovated.

The parking bays have been out of use since I moved to this road more than a year ago.

Though my council tax has risen by 40 per cent this year, I have seen no additional services for this money and, with regard to parking, have only seen it get worse.

Where does the money raised through parking fines go? It certainly doesn't go back into providing better parking facilities. I pay more in parking fines each year than do council tax.

What do I hope will come from this letter? I hope it will make someone sit up and pay attention.

I am sickened by the parking situation around my area and I feel taxed to the hilt for the privilege.

This is a serious problem for residents in Brighton and Hove and we look to our elected council members to resolve issues such as these.

I don't believe fining residents is the solution to the problem.
