Rather than focusing exclusively on trams as the answer to our transport problems, would it not be better to consider the whole transport picture?

Like it or not, cars and vans will still need to get access to the city to provide essential services that can't use public transport.

Business vehicles, private vehicles, buses and trains should all be considered in the solution, irrespective of ideological objections.

Perhaps a real way of fair charging would be for the council to also charge staff at companies in areas such as Crowhurst Road, currently with free parking, to subsidise city-centre drivers.
