An exhibition by artist Michael Ayrton, who first gained prominence as one of a group of artists that came to be known as the Neo-Romantics.
His etchings for The Verlaine Suite, 1972, illustrate Paul Verlaine's erotic poems Femmes/Hombres and his minimal use of lines captures the frank sentiments of Verlaine's bawdy poetry.
Verlaine wrote the poems between 1888 and 1891, during which time he was afflicted with a number of devastating illnesses.
Ayrton first came across the poems in the late Forties but did not experiment with the art of etching until the Seventies.
Despite initial controversy, the drawings were published by Studio Prints but this is possibly the first time the collection has been exhibited in its entirety.
Visitors are advised to be aware of the explicit content of the work.
