The first 100 stars whose names will be engraved in stone on the Brighton Walk of Fame have been chosen.

Votes have been counted and the walk at Brighton Marina is ready to roll with a unique selection of individuals and groups who have contributed to the life of the city.

Readers last week rang our telephone hotline to vote for the remaining people to join the original 46 chosen by readers four years ago.

DJ and comedian Terry Garoghan, famous for his award-winning Last Bus to Whitehawk late-night radio show on Southern FM, easily topped last week's poll with singing legend Dame Vera Lynn not far behind.

With the names now chosen, plaques for the first 100 names are ready to be made.

They will be laid in three zones of the rapidly expanding Brighton Marina.

Stars of stage, screen and music will be in zone one opposite the UGC Cinema. Sporting celebrities will be placed on the boardwalk in front of the new waterfront complex.

Authors and journalists will be in the Village Square area in the centre of the marina together with inventors and entrepreneurs.

A Fame Cafe is being built and the walk will begin close by.

The Walk of Fame will be unveiled at a star-studded ceremony on November 1 at the Rendezvous Casino at the marina.

Guests on the opening night will be our hotline competition winner Mrs Hook, of Cuckmere Way, Brighton, and Mrs Hopworth, of Church Lane, Lewes, who was chosen through the Walk of Fame web site.
