A Brighton graphic designer has helped relaunch a casino web site to make the most of the boom in online gambling.

Nigel Gordijk worked on the ladbrokescasino.com web site, part of the Ladbrokes group of betting companies, for two months.

It went live on April 3 and has been relaunched to coincide with a more relaxed government attitude towards gambling.

Working in conjunction with London new media consultancy HHM Interactive, Mr Gordijk designed the site's interface, from its navigational style to its visual appearance, which is intended to reflect Ladbrokes'

corporate identity.

The site's front and back end were programmed by HHM's development team.

HHM's team has been working with Ladbrokes for the past year to create a global e-gaming portal.

This has involved localising content and design for several European and Far Eastern markets and helping to create new revenue streams through sites such ladbrokescasino.com.

In the last year, the Ladbrokes site has been listed as one of the top ten UK sites in terms of traffic and has contributed a significant amount to the group's total revenue.

Although the online gambling industry, which has been one of the best performing internet industries, faces a worrying future in the United States, where full licensing may be introduced, the UK gambling industry is predicted to grow after plans to end restrictive gaming laws were announced.

A dramatic expansion in casinos, bingo halls and amusement arcades is expected under a liberalisation of gambling legislation introduced in the Sixties to combat gangster involvement.

Mr Gordijk has designed web sites for a number of high-profile clients, including Honda (UK), Thomson Holidays and the Cabinet Office.

His online portfolio recently won a Designer of the Month award from US graphic design portal, creativepublic.com.
