It was interesting to read about the basis of affordable housing through the Moat housing scheme (The Argus, April 4).
If we apply the same basis to the flats proposed for the King Alfred site, we can see councillors have not considered the financial aspect of affordable homes or are totally lacking in financial nous.
The flats are to cost £220,000. On the basis of the Moat scheme, the mortgage, rent, council tax, ground rent and maintenance would amount to about £1,000 a month. How could someone on £15,000 a year afford such
a flat?
It appears councillors are being duped over the King Alfred site. At the end of the day, there will be no King Alfred sports centre and no affordable homes - only high-priced flats.
The large-scale projects should be abandoned and resources concentrated upon refurbishment of the present buildings.
