Two men on board a fishing vessel were rescued in fading light after their boat suffered engine failure.
They radioed Dover Coastguard to say their vessel was stranded two miles east of Hastings just before 7pm on Saturday.
The alert was passed on to the Hastings all-weather lifeboat.
The crew of the lifeboat towed the vessel back to Hastings.
