Two men were cut from their car after it smashed into a lamp post and a brick wall.

Filsham Road, St Leonards, was closed for more than two hours last night while firefighters used cutting equipment to free the men, believed to be in their 20s, from the Citroen Saxo. Leading firefighter Alan Thompson said: "It had left the road and hit a lamppost, taking it out of the ground.

"The car came to rest on its side but the roof was very close to the wall so it made access very difficult."

Two ambulance crews, a doctor and a paramedic unit were on standby to treat the men.

They were taken to the Conquest Hospital.

One man had serious leg injuries.
