A couple's amorous noises led to a visit from police.

Neighbours feared something far more sinister was happening next door when they heard moans and groans and dialled 999.

When police arrived at Jamie Cheshire's home in Wannock, near Eastbourne, he answered the door in a towel and explained the noises had come from his Danish girlfriend Lenny Devaney, 21.

Police said they had a duty to answer all emergency calls but their time could have been better employed elsewhere.

Sussex Police spokesman Mark Hazelby said: "We had received a 999 call from a worried neighbour who had heard a lot of screaming and shouting.

"A unit attended the scene but no offence had been committed.

"It's fair to say the screaming was somewhat of a passionate nature."

Mr Cheshire, 23, said the couple had been to a pub and had drunk two bottles of champagne and some tequila.
