The hugely-popular Seven Sisters Marathon which was threatened with extinction has been officially revived with a new name.

The race, now known as the Beachy Head Marathon, will be held on Saturday, October 26.

Last month, The Argus revealed plans to revive the event after organisers Leslie Smith and Tony Raven retired after 21 years last October.

Now its future has been officially confirmed by Eastbourne Borough Council, which will help co-ordinate the event.

The marathon has a reputation as one of the most gruelling in the South-East, with runners negotiating steep climbs, gates, cattle grids and several flights of steps.

The number of competitors will be restricted to 1,500. The entry fee will be £15.

Anyone wishing to enter can send a self-addressed envelope marked Beachy Head Marathon to PO Box 2608, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN20 8DZ.
