Chichester completed a hat-trick as they dominated the West Sussex Minis Rugby Festival at Crawley.

They triumphed at under-7s, under-9s and under-11s, while the under-12s were runners up in an event featuring around 600 players.

Chichester secretary Laurence Murray said: "By definition we were the most successful club there and it was no doubt the best we've ever performed at it. We are delighted."

Chi pipped Pulborough 25-20 at under-7s in a revenge victory with tries scored by Henry Anscombe (2), Phil Matthews, Angus Hickey and Max Smedhurst.

Coach Peter James said: "We suffered our first defeat of the season in the first group match of the day against Pulborough so it was nice to put that right."

It was a special day for James.

"My son Alistair was in the under-7s and my older boy Joe in the under-11s. I lost my voice at the end of it. There was plenty of celebrating to be done. "

Chichester overcame Crawley 5-0 in the under-9s thanks to a golden try in extra time by Eddie Hillyer.

The under-11s defeated Worthing 20-5 in their final with Robbie Legg (2), Charlie Matthews and Oliver Munns scoring the tries.

Adam Kitson got the lone try as Hove lifted the under-12s title with a 5-0 win over Chichester.

It means the side have won every year since under-7s. Hove coach Andy Whiting said: "I'm enormously proud of the lads."

Peter Merriem scored a hat-trick of tries as Horsham overcame Crawley 15-0 in the under-10s final.

Worthing secured the under-8s crown with the side who claimed the under-7s title 12 months ago.

They defeated Hove 15-10 with tries by Oscar Evelyn, Richard Hadfield and Nathan Style.

Coach Lester Hadfield said: "The win means the team are unbeaten in 40 matches this season."

LAURA Jenkins (Hassocks) and Ellen Small (Lewes) helped England under-18s beat Wales under-19s 12-7 in their country's first girls' international at Chester.

Varndean pupil Laura, formerly of Downlands, said: "We were very proud. To line up with the team for the national anthems in front of a big crowd was a great experience. I hope our success will encourage even more girls and women to take up the game."

HOVE will face Worthing in the Sussex Under-14s Cup final after beating Eastbourne 44-10 with tries by Chris Canneaux, Toby Sutton, Noah Cato, Jordan Turner-Hall and Elliot Potts.
