A man survived after tumbling 80ft down cliffs on to a chalk ledge, suffering broken ankles.
Emergency services launched a rescue operation after a passer-by heard the injured man's cries for help from the ledge at 200ft-high Cow Gap, near Eastbourne, and called police.
Fire crews, medics, a cliff rescue team and coastguard helicopter India-Juliet from Lee-on-Solent, Hants, were summoned just after 7pm last night.
The man was stuck on the ledge for 75 minutes until emergency crews managed to reach him.
The helicopter crew winched him aboard on a stretcher before whisking him to Eastbourne District General Hospital where he was still being treated this morning.
