Brighton-based Mistral Internet has notched-up another storming success by achieving the Investors in People (IIP) award in only two months.

The internet service provider, which specialises in connections for businesses, decided to pursue the standard after completing the ISO 9001 award last December.

Mistral joined Sussex Enterprise and discovered funding was available to local companies to develop internal and external skills.

The funding made it possible for Mistral to become part of a "fast track" programme to achieve the IIP award.

Managing director Karl Robinson said: "By the time we had completed ISO 9001, many of the systems were in place for IIP certification. Sussex Enterprise guided us through the process, conducting interviews with our management team and other employees and even a mock assessment involving half of our staff."

Mr Robinson said the company believed it was one of the first, if not the first, internet service providers to achieve the award.

He said: "Because this sector is new and fast-growing, very few companies are paying attention to these certifications.

"We think it is extremely important because it makes us more creditable in our customers' eyes and ensures current and future employees know our values and training policy."
