Albion will be promoted to the First Division on Saturday if they win at Peterborough and Brentford draw at home to Huddersfield.

It follows an ecstatic Easter Monday for the Seagulls, which has left them two points clear at the top.

A stoppage-time header by substitute Lee Steele snatched a 2-1 win for Peter Taylor's charges against Bristol City in a 1pm kick-off at Withdean.

Brentford were then beaten 2-0 at fourth-bottom Bury and Reading lost their place as leaders as they were held 0-0 at home by relegation-threatened Northampton.

Albion now need five points from their last three matches at Peterborough, at home to Swindon and away to Port Vale to ensure successive promotions.

It could all be wrapped up by Saturday if results go their way at London Road and Griffin Park.

Michel Kuipers was the hero as Albion stretched their unbeaten run to seven games.

The Dutchman produced a string of saves to keep Bristol at bay and complete a happy Easter of six points and six goals without injured scoring star Bobby Zamora.

"It looks really good for us," said Kuipers. "We just have to stay focused and keep concentrating.

"We are very confident. We are in a winning streak and we did it last season.

"Bristol managed to score three goals against Reading last Saturday. They are a very good team and they just kept flying at me."

A clean sheet double over Danny Wilson's side was especially sweet for Kuipers, signed from their arch-rivals Bristol Rovers.

"The whole city is full of police when they play each other and it's nice for me personally to get two wins against them," Kuipers said.

"It means a little bit more to me because of the rivalry. When I was at Rovers the City people used to give me stick."

Taylor said: "Michel pulled off some magnificent saves, but we had some chances as well.

"I have questioned Lee Steele at times for maybe not working as hard as he can and not playing as well as he can, but he showed a tremendous attitude and scored a very important goal."
