Honours were even in the Rymans League division one derby clash between Bognor Regis and Worthing as they drew 1-1 at Nyewood Lane.

The Rocks started in determined fashion with Jay Pickering heading a Michael Birmingham cross narrowly over before Jamie Howell drove a shot just wide.

The hosts' next attack saw a Michael Birmingham shot blocked before Nicky Wyatt rattled the bottom of the post with his follow up.

The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes when Ben Carrington cut out a crossfield ball, drove down the wing and supplied the cross from which Gavin Geddes headed home at the far post.

Bognor were again denied by the post when Richard Hudson's deep cross was headed against the upright by Matt Russell.

Howell rifled another shot narrowly wide as Bognor searched for an equaliser while Guy Rutherford blasted another opening over the top.

Early in the second period Russell should have equalised when a piece of misfortune saw the ball deflect off Geddes and into the striker's path but with only James Wastell to beat he pulled his shot wide.

Bognor keeper Craig Stoner, who was a mere spectator for long periods, saved a fierce shot from Gavin Jones.

Bognor equalised in the 85th minute when a deep Guy Rutherford corner was powerfully headed home at the far post by Wyatt.

Hudson was denied the winning goal late in the game when his neat foot work saw him cut in from out wide and his shot was well blocked by Wastell.

Worthing manager Barry Lloyd said: "Bognor had lots of possession as we expected and we then got the goal we wanted but unfortunately could not hold on to it."

Bognor boss Jack Pearce was pleased with the performance but disappointed with the result.
