A man was fighting for life this morning after the car he was travelling in left the road and hit a tree at Chailey.
The man, a passenger in a Peugeot 205 car, was trapped for almost an hour as firefighters and medics battled to free him.
The car had been travelling along Beggar's Wood Road, Chailey, towards the A275.
Police said the injured man was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, with life-threatening injuries.
The woman driver was also injured but was later allowed home.
Police, who closed the road for three hours, today appealed for anyone with information on the crash to call them on 0845 6070999.
