An expectant mum stands to win £1,000 if her first child is born on the birthday she shares with her mother.

Donna Munn is due to give birth to her first child at the end of May or in early June.

She and her mother share a birthday on June 9 and Donna is keeping her fingers crossed her offspring will hold on until then.

If her child stays put for those few extra days, the 36-year-old will be able to give it an even better start in life.

Donna, who lives at Thornhill Rise, Mile Oak, with her partner, Michael, stands to win £1,000 if the baby follows in its mother's and grandmother's footsteps after she placed a £50 bet at 20-1 odds with bookmaker William Hill.

The chances of a grandmother, mother and child all sharing a birthday are more than 130,000 to one.

But with Donna's niece, Georgia, also born on the same day, she is convinced she is destined to give birth on June 9.

Donna said: "People bet on whether it will snow at Christmas so I wondered if I'd be able to place a bet on when I will give birth.

"I found William Hill on the internet and wrote to them. I got a call back saying they would offer me odds of 20-1 and would take up to £50 on it.

"It could be really good. We'll just have to wait and see what happens."

If Donna's child does arrive on June 9, he or she would also share a birthday with a number of celebrities.

These include actors Michael J Fox, Tony Britton, and Natalie Portman, as well as advertising mogul Charles Saatchi and Mitch Mitchell, the drummer with the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Donna has had scans at two hospitals and has been given contrasting opinions as to when her baby will be born and what sex it will be.

She said: "The Royal Sussex said I am expecting on May 31 but Kings College, London, said June 7. It could be two weeks either side.

"The Royal Sussex said they think it will be a boy but Kings College said they think it's a girl."

Because of her relative late age for giving birth, Donna has been told she might have to have a Caesarean.

If it is an emergency Caesarean, the bookie says it will still pay out. But if Donna chooses to have a Caesarean, the bet will be void.

A spokeswoman for William Hill said they took a lot of strange bets but gambles on dates of birth remained quite uncommon.
