Horsham YMCA booked their place in the final of the John O'Hara League Cup with a convincing 3-1 win over Sidley United.

The West Sussex side dominated most of the game and were unlucky not to win by more.

They opened the scoring after a well taken free kick was floated into the six yard box and headed into his own net by Sidley's Jason Finch.

Peter Baker equalised with a well taken shot and was unlucky not to score again after a dubious offside decision.

YM restored the lead shortly before half time when skipper Matt Duffield ran unchecked into the Sidley box and shot past the stationary keeper Danny Poole.

Sidley started the second half well with Adam Day watching a decent shot sail just over and Paul Balch screwing his shot wide with the goalmouth gaping.

But the third Horsham goal followed shortly after with Paul Boxall heading in Dave Armstrong's corner.

Armstrong was denied a fourth when a powerful header of his own was smartly saved by Poole.

Boxall then found himself alone with only defender in front of him and he took his time before eventually heading goalwards only to be denied by the upright.

YM finished strongly and never looked in trouble at the back as Sidley resorted to the long ball tactic.

Meanwhile, in division one of the Rich City County League, Hassocks fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Whitehawk.

When Simon Rowland scored his second of the game on 56 minutes it looked like Hawks were on their way to a comfortable win.

But Andy Burt reduced the deficit with just over 20 minutes remaining and Chris Hewitt hit an equaliser four minutes later.

Lloyd Vanson scored four times as Shoreham beat Saltdean United 5-1 in the first round of the Brighton Charity Cup.

Mark Pulling also netted while Leigh Davis hit Saltdean's consolation.
