A plane spotter from Horsham is expected to face trial on a spying charge in Greece next month, it emerged today.

BT worker Christopher Wilson, 46, of Erica Way, is one of 12 Britons arrested during a plane spotting trip to the country last November.

The 11 men and one woman are due to be tried on a single misdemeanour of espionage on April 24, which holds a maximum penalty of five years, according to their lawyer Yannis Zacharias.

The trial at Kalamata is scheduled to last two days.

The group were arrested on November 8 for allegedly taking photos of a military base during an air show in Kalamata at a time of heightened security.

They were held in prison for nearly six weeks before being released in December on bail of about £9,000 each, after judges reduced the charge to a misdemeanour of gathering secret information.

The other Britons facing trial are: Wayne Groves, 38, from Tamworth; Paul Coppin, 57, of Mildenhall, Suffolk, and his wife Lesley, 51; Peter Norris, 52, of Uxbridge, west London; Antoni Adamiak, 37, of London; Andrew Jenkins, 32, of York; Michael Bussell, 47, of Swanland, near Hull; Michael Keane, 57, of Dartford, Kent; Steven Rush, 38, from Caterham, Surrey; Graham Arnold, 38, from Ottershaw, Surrey; and Gary Fagan, 28, from Kegworth, Leicestershire.
