Prof Porter, 56, of Church Road, St Leonards, wrote more than 200 books and articles on a wide range of subjects.

He was discovered on Sunday morning in Pevensey Road, Hastings, and was taken to hospital where he died on Sunday.

Police said he had died from natural causes.
