Chris McPhee scored twice as Albion Reserves reached the Sussex Senior Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Horsham at Queen Street last night.

Albion had to wait until the 73rd minute to take the lead. Rupert Sanson dispossessed James Bird and Horsham goalkeeper Ian Chatfield could only parry his fierce shot, leaving McPhee to run in and convert the rebound.

McPhee, who has played for Albion's first team this season, added Brighton's second in the final minute, chipping home from the penalty spot when John Kirby was a judged to have tripped Stephan Wojciechowski.

A crowd of 445 watched a first half played at a brisk pace with plenty of attractive football.

The Hornets had the best of the opening period, forcing three early corners.

But Albion created the first real chance, Dan Beck laying the ball off for Sanson, who tucked it past Chatfield, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.

Seagulls keeper Will Packham had to get down well at the near post after 16 minutes to block Jamie Taylor's firm drive and had to be quick off the mark to get his body behind the ball outside the area when Taylor beat Kevin Hemsley to a lofted pass.

Adam Virgo nearly scored a spectacular own goal when he sliced Dave Flemming's cross over his own bar after 28 minutes. But the Seagulls created chances of their own as Beck's 35-yard blockbuster sailed narrowly wide and Dean Hammond lifted the ball well over from 15 yards when he had time and space.

Albion will meet the winners of tonight's quarter-final between Eastbourne Borough and Eastbourne United.
