Former Albion youngster Duncan McArthur set up both goals as Hastings beat Crawley 2-0 in extra time last night to book a semi-final against Lewes in the Sussex Senior Cup.

Reds' goalkeeper Andy Little appeared at fault for both goals as McArthur served up two excellent free-kicks for Adam Flanagan and Stuart Myall to convert.

First the 21-year-old Town midfielder crossed from the right in the 94th minute and when Little failed to hold the low ball, Flanagan fired in a low right shot from the edge of the box for his fourth goal in five games.

Four minutes later McArthur delivered another fierce inswinging ball from the right with his deadly left foot which Myall headed over Little to seal victory.

McArthur said: "I'm very happy. We deserved it and looked capable of winning from the start. I just swung the balls in and hoped for the best."

The win will be a great confidence boost for Dr Martens eastern division league leaders against their premier division rivals.

Boss George Wakeling said: "We should get some confidence from this result. Our defence was faultless and Danny Simmonds played well at the back."

Wakeling experimented for the visit of his friend Billy Smith's side to Pilot Filed by switching to 4-4-2. Paul Ruddy returned from illness and Simmonds was deployed as sweeper.

Crawley skipper Kuke Anderson dropped to the bench and there was a rare start for Warren Waugh.

In a first half of few chances, Hastings went close when French striker Landry Zahana-Oni pulled the ball back from the right to Steve Yates in the 23rd minute, but his first time right foot cross just eluded Myall and Chris Honey.

Crawley were more determined after the re-start and could have been ahead when Stewart Holmes drove a low cross in from the right which Tony Burt deflected on to his own post.

Keith Sharman and Ben Judge both failed to trouble King with headers from Jimmy Dack corners before Bagnall blazed a great chance over in the 80th minute after Holmes did well to get in a low cross from the right.

Zahana-Oni then headed over at the near post after exchanging passes with Yates and the lively forward went close again when McArthur picked him out with a diagnal pass but he showed too much of it to Little.
