Title-chasing Horsham were four up at Marlow in Division Two but were happy to hang for a 4-3 win as they leapfrogged Lewes to go top.
The Hornets, with Rooks playing in the FA Vase, went ahead after 39 minutes when Gary Charman beat goal-keeper Lee Carroll from a tight angle.
Dave Flemming headed the second on 45 minutes following an Eddie French cross to the far post.
Jamie Taylor turned in the area to clip home Horsham's third three minutes into first-half injury time.
Hornets stretched their lead just before the hour. Taylor broke from midfield and rolled a pass for Flemming to fire home.
Marlow reduced the arrears in the 66th minute through Nicky Ryder after his initial effort had rebounded off the crossbar.
James Pritchard made it 4-2 six minutes from time when he beat goalkeeper John Payne after Robert Gibson had played him through. The midfielder stole his second three minutes later, chipping Payne.
Horsham boss John Maggs said: "As soon as any side scores against us the panic button goes."
