Racists have been warned they face eviction from their council homes.

Police are collecting names of people known to have been involved in racially abusing other residents of the Whitehawk Estate in Brighton.

Sergeant Tony Lumb told the latest meeting of Whitehawk Crime Prevention Forum that crime levels had remained relatively stable on the estate but there was concern about racial harassment.

He said: "I have a list of about 20 names of people who are causing racial abuse and grief and we are hopeful of quashing that.

"If anyone knows anyone giving abuse they should report it to me. If we find the perpetrators we will take action."

Faith Matyszak, vice-chairwoman of the forum, said: "Hate and fear usually come down through the generations."

A Brighton and Hove City Council spokesman said all tenants had to sign a tenancy agreement agreeing not to harass neighbours.
