Brighton and Hove's crime figures have dropped to their lowest point since 1999.
The latest figures for Brighton and Hove show a major breakthrough in reducing burglaries and car crimes.
Totals late last year were more than 2,000 per month compared to more than 3,000 in 1999.
The biggest fall has been in car crime, down to the 300 a month compared with 700. Burglaries have dropped below 150 compared with 280.
But violent crime rose slightly to 400 incidents.
Superintendent Peter Coll, divisional second-in-command, said encouraging people to report acts of violence and victims' increased confidence in the police had accounted for the rise.
There are plans to launch a violent crime taskforce later this year to combat the problem.
