Cliff Richard fan Judy Lawson missed the birth of her first grandchild as she spent a week queuing for concert tickets.

Mrs Lawson, 48, from Petworth, also braved wet weather and arctic temperatures to secure tickets for Sir Cliff's first UK tour in ten years.

She camped outside the Bournemouth International Centre in Dorset for a week, along with pal Shirley Downton from Newport, Isle of Wight, to be at the front of the queue when tickets went on sale yesterday.

Mother-of-four Mrs Lawson was called by her daughter's partner while she was still queuing and told she had become a grandmother.

She said: "It is a shame I could not be there, but he was not supposed to arrive for three weeks.

"Somebody did ask me if they were going to call him Cliff but I don't think so. I would not want him to grow up knowing he had been given his name because his gran sat in the cold for a week."

Mrs Lawson bought six front-row tickets for £35 each.

She and Mrs Downton, 46, have between them seen Sir Cliff more than 2,000 times and have met him several times.

The pair even owe their friendship to Sir Cliff - they met 12 years ago while queuing to meet the pop legend outside London's Wembley Arena.
