I fully agree with Paul Hayward's well-written article on the sport facilities and venues so lacking in Brighton and Hove (The Argus, February 20).

All this will become apparent when Manchester hosts the Commonwealth Games this summer. The days when Brighton could blame Hove and vice versa have long gone and councillors in the new city have a responsibility now.

Ignore the negative background noises of East and West Sussex County Councils and all those who are trying to put the dampers on any new sporting development. We have, as a new city, destiny in our own hands.
