Sports car driver John Morgan could be forced to sell his pride and joy after road humps were built in streets near his home.

Mr Morgan, 37, can no longer take his twin-turbo Nissan 300 for a spin because it is so low to the ground it cannot get over the speed bumps.

Despite raising the suspension of the car, which was imported from Japan, Mr Morgan says it is damaged every time he uses it.

The father-of-four, of Central Avenue, Peacehaven, said: "I'm literally destroying the car every time it leaves my drive.

"It's a powerful car but I have to edge it over these humps. It's not that I want to tear down the road but the car is taxed and MOT'd so surely that should entitle me to be able to drive to my own house."

He also believes the town's £1 million-plus traffic calming scheme poses a danger to motorcyclists.

He said: "It won't be long before a bike slides on one of them - they have no grip to speak of in the wet and there is no sign to warn of them being there."

The traffic calming measures, installed in Peacehaven and Telscombe Cliffs and funded as part of the new Peacehaven school's private finance scheme, have been overseen by East Sussex County Council.

A council spokeswoman said: "The purpose of the road schemes is to make the area a safer place for children to walk to school and to slow vehicles down to 20mph or less.

"Provided motorists drive through these features at these speeds, they should not cause any damage to their vehicles.

"All these road schemes have been put in in accordance with national guidelines."
