Albion boss Peter Taylor wants to climax the promotion push by making the loan move of matchwinner Junior Lewis permanent.

Lewis is with the Seagulls for the rest of the season, but Taylor will try to persuade chairman Dick Knight to keep hold of the lanky Leicester midfielder.

"That's what I will be pushing the chairman very hard for," Taylor revealed after Lewis headed Albion to a 1-0 win against promotion rivals Huddersfield at Withdean on Saturday. He knows I've got a lot of faith in him. He's come here and had two excellent games.

"He's got a bit of a groin injury, but he worked very hard through it. It restricted him a little bit, but he scored a very important goal.

"We didn't think it would affect him much, because of his height and because he doesn't have to rely on electric pace. He is a bit of a plodder in a way, but he's a very good footballer."

Lewis headed in a 54th-minute cross from Paul Brooker. It was his second goal in as many starts after scoring on his full debut for Albion against leaders Reading.

"He scored a lot of goals for me at Gillingham coming from midfield, but in non-League he scored a lot of goals playing as a centre forward," Taylor said.

"I took him to Leicester for £50,000 rising to £150,000 if he plays 40 matches. He hasn't played that many, but he knows I've got a lot of belief in him. I always signed him as a squad player for Leicester and I still maintain he is a very good one.

"He is one of the options to replace Bobby (Zamora) up front, but I will keep that one close to my chest."

Zamora starts a three-match ban with Saturday's visit by Wrexham.

Albion will go into that game six points clear in the second automatic promotion place and two behind Reading with a game in hand following their fifth straight home victory.
