The report about the new Traveller Law Reform Bill (The Argus, February 5) refers to travelling as being a legitimate way of life and refers to Travellers' needs, wants and rights but not to their social responsibilities.

They want rights to sites with facilities laid on and access to health care and education but expect it all to be provided and funded by the settled population. Just why should our councils provide and our taxes pay for all this?

Travellers are concerned about discrimination and prejudice. Here is one citizen who will certainly discriminate against anyone who expects to freeload at my expense just because they choose to follow a different lifestyle to mine. That's not prejudice; it's plain common sense.

By all means make provision for sites with water and waste services and access to other services but let's see travellers paying a fair rent, including a tax element, the same as the rest of us have to pay for our dwellings and services.
